2nd place

ALISHA – year 10

'THE GAZE'

Judges Comments:

This work is an incredible technical drawing, depicting a moment that could be read on many levels. The attention to detail and high level of skill involved in depicting hair, movement and feeling is quite remarkable. ‘The Gaze’ captures a subtle moment of an animal’s emotive glance, while the drawing opens questions for the audience to consider, is this dog perhaps waiting or is it looking lovingly at its owner? The artwork’s success lies in its realistic description of both subject and sentiment. Amazing work Alisha.

3rd place

FELIX – year 10

'Golden Hour'

Judges Comments:

Texture is the real hero in this piece. From the glassy wet ground to the small details like windows and shutters, and faint buildings and people in the distance – you can see that a lot can be communicated with minimal detail. It’s easy to imagine a seasoned artist standing in the street painting this artwork as if they’ve done it a million times before. Beautiful work Felix!

louise – year 8

'silent drowning'

Judges comments:

There is just as much emotion in this piece as there is detail. The choice of tinted paper works perfectly here, as it really accentuates the moisture details on the skin and lips. The amount of work involved to make the skin look so textured and realistic is truly so impressive, and what a brilliant subject matter. A lot of time and thought has gone into creating such a wonderful artwork, well done Louise!

2nd place

se jin – year 8

'dualism'

Judges comments:

This artwork effectively illustrates the concept of dualism, contrasting the monochromatic realism of graphite with a streak of colour. The portrait is perfectly executed, showcasing excellent proportions and composition. The artist skilfully captured the emotion of the subject, adding depth and intrigue to the piece. Overall, ‘Dualism’ captivates with its artistic innovation and thoughtful exploration of contrasts.
Beautiful work Se Jin.

'our special place'

Judges comments:

This work is an original take on the strong Australian landscape legacy that exists in this country. The drawing is original and outstanding in its conceptual approach and subtly of its execution. ‘Our Special Place’ holds a magical presence, by incorporating the essence of the land, with a keen observation of nature, while displaying a unique drawing style and whimsical use of an alternate medium. The drawing is a fantastic achievement and an outstanding work with depth and sensitivity, while exhibiting the outer parameters of what drawing can be.Great work on such an original piece of art, Hannah
